The moon, the moon

IMG_2153

I did my first moon planting today. No idea what I am doing but apparently it’s a good day for planting bulbs. Truth is it’s be pouring rain or blowing a storm for a couple of weeks so in fact it suited me more than anything else. I am quite circumspect about most things but also willing to give anything a go. So when my other half was generously/jokingly given a work farewell present of how to plant by the moon initially I scoffed. “Do I need to howl?” and “What on earth!” sprang to mind. Yet then I thought about it and well the seas are determined by the ‘faces’ of the moon, so why wouldn’t the gravity of the moon also have an impact on the water content of plants and the soil? I don’t mean this in a spiritual, let’s all dance in a circle kind of a way. Just purely thinking about the science. And to be honest having someone/something else giving me a bit of direction wouldn’t go amiss. So out I went as the afternoon sun touched the golden beeches and dug through piles of nettles. Twas bliss!

Hopefully, if the mice don't get them first, the nettles will let lovely alliums through
